May I be here (2018-2021)
The work consists of 3 video-performances, an object and a collage.
This work is about existing of individuals in public spaces.
As a person with immigration experience and minority background in my home country; In a Berliner underground stop, I do an experiment about how much an individual can own and shape the public space and I question how much I can be/exist in a public space. Through that, I consider and question the ownership and the general concept of urban and public space.
The idea behind the objects and the performance have developed with a small art project that was planned by colleagues and me. The project was to have an exhibition in the public space in Charlottenburg/Berlin. I planned to do a public installation. Thus, to question the urban transformation and mimic the construction industry's techniques of Berlin and Istanbul.
The elements of the construction were everywhere. It was an occupation. They were the mold of the city.
After a long struggle to get an allowance for the installation and not having it, I let the construction elements control my body. I decided to make a pirate performance to mimic the forms of the object and to occupy the spaces that were designed for individuals. In the end, as I mentioned, it evolves into a public space experiment.
The object (300-100-55 cm) consists of bricks, tiling adhesive, chrome coated iron profiles and mesh.
The videos are planned to show on three different screens with headphones. For this expression, they are shown -temporarily- with projecting on the wall.
During the experiment, I did 6 performances. The performances happened in U2 Zoologischer Garten.
From left to right: Video 1, Video 2, Video 3
On the 'video 1', I show my first performance. It has been interrupted by the U-Bahn securities. Despite the interruption, I finished my performance. But my moves were reformed.
On the 'video 2', I show one of my performances where I did in a different(hidden and unseen) part of the U-Bahn stop with the new movements.
On the 'video 3', I show my last performance. For this one, I went back to the first place where I did my first attempt. This time securities did not interrupt the performance. They were even mentioning that they know me and I am doing it regularly. Thus, I managed to do the performance one after the other with the new movements and the movements that I wanted to perform at first.
With the digital print collages, I refer to the process of the work. They consist of images from the public spaces that were transformed. I used found images, screenshots from Google Earth & Google Map and some images I took.
They are printed in three different A2 size paper.
